Our
goals
The Distributed Intelligent
Systems Technical Committee is an international network
of specialists active in the research and applications of
agent-based Distributed Intelligent Systems. Key application
areas include manufacturing and supply chains, and infrastructures
for service, energy, transportation, and emergency management
systems. The core research topics for these systems include
agent architectures, agent intelligence, agent communications,
agent collaboration, agent simulation and optimization,
and agent human-machine interfaces. Fundamental to these
topics is the "role based" approach for agent
design.
The impetus for this technical committee
comes from the results of previous international consortia
and research programs in which many of our members have
participated. The Distributed Intelligent Systems TC will
provide a forum for our members to participate in this emerging
field and an opportunity for those who wish to become involved
in its further development both from theoretical and application
perspectives.
What
we are doing
- Special issue entitled "Collaboration
Support Systems" in the IEEE Transactions on Systems,
Man, and Cybernetics, Part A, Systems and Humans, 2006
- Invited lectures on Distributed Intelligent Systems in
Canada, China, Japan, Taiwan, USA, and Europe, 2006-07
- Workshop on Role-Based Collaboration" at CSCW'06,
November 2006
- 2006 IEEE International Workshop on Distributed Intelligent
Systems in Prague, Czech Republic, June 2006
- Special sessions on distributed intelligent systems and
role-based collaboration at the 2006 IEEE International
Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics in Tapei, Taiwan,
October 2006
- Special sessions on distributed intelligent systems and
role-based collaboration at the 2007 IEEE International
Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics in Montreal,
Canada, October 2007

Why
don't you join us?
We welcome your participation
in the Distributed Intelligent Systems Technical Committee
by contributing papers to our conferences and workshops, organizing
special sessions or tutorials in your area of expertise, and
exchanging your results with peers prior to publication or
commercialization. Most importantly, we provide opportunities
for our members to network with international specialists
and learn about this emerging field. Our
planned activities
- International Conference on IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics,
to be held in Singapore on October 12-15, 2008
- Special issue on "Emergency Management Systems and
Distributed Intelligent Systems"
- 2008 IEEE International Conference on Distributed Human-Machine
Systems, March 9-12, 2008 in Athens, Greece
- Invited lectures at SMC Chapters worldwide
- Articles on professional activities of our members in
the SMC eNewsletter.
- Articles for IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics,
Part A: Systems and Humans
